Tiangong-2 Space Laboratory was successfully launched on 15th September 2016. After the successful mission of Tiangong-1 Space Laboratory, Tiangong-2 is the second space laboratory emission launched by China. A number of cutting-edge science and technology development strategy of high science and application tasks was undertaken in Tiangong-2 Space Laboratory, including a number of scientific experiments and testes, as well as validation system of new technology.
After the launch, Tiangong-2 Space Laboratory was docked with Shenzhou-11 manned spaceship and carried out experiment of man’s residence of approximately one month. Tiangong-2 Space Laboratory was also docked with Tianzhou-1 cargo ship and carried out experiments of propellant recharge.
Tiangong-2 Space Laboratory has carried out a number of new space applied load equipment and more than ten applications and experiments, which relate to earth observation and space science, space astronomy, microgravity basic physics, microgravity fluid physics, space materials science, space life science, space environment and space physics etc. There are three playloads for the study of earth observation and space science, including Wide-band imaging spectrometer, Three-dimensional imaging microwave altimeter and Multi-band ultraviolet edge imaging spectrometer. Besides, there are Gamma ray polarization detector for space astronomy, Space cold atomic clock and Air-ground quantum key distribution for microgravity basic physics, Thermal capillary convection in a liquid bridge for microgravity fluid physics, study on space growth of synthetic materials for space life science.
Platform characteristics：Running on a near circular non solar synchronous orbit with a tilt angle of 43 degree, the platform has nadir/oblique flight mode with three axis stability.
